Addition – Marcus Peters

For many seasons, Marcus Peters was a fan favorite in Kansas City. While he struggled at times to cover or tackle consistently, you could almost bet he’d have a game defining takeaway six to eight times per year. Though he’s moved on, after a shocking trade during the 2018 offseason, he’s maintained his trademark playmaking ability.

Peters has played for two teams since the Chiefs, the Rams trading him to the Ravens midway through last season. The Ravens finally committed to him last year to the tune of a three-year, $42 million extension.

Last season was Peters’ best since 2016. He totaled five interceptions for a league leading 210 return yards and two touchdowns, and was rewarded with his second First Team All-Pro selection.  He’s had his usual start to a season, with one interception through two games, and Mahomes and company will need to pay special attention to whatever side of the field Peters happens to be roaming on Monday night.

Addition – Patrick Queen

Patrick Queen was a star for the LSU Tigers his junior season on the way to the team’s undefeated season and national championship victory. He had 85 total tackles and the fourth most tackles for loss in the SEC with 12, and added an impressive NFL Combine to his resume in February.

Queen is a name that most Chiefs fans are likely very familiar with. Several local pundits believed he was the solution at linebacker given his excellent speed. Had he fallen to pick 32, it’s possible the team would have drafted him instead of Clyde Edwards-Helaire—not likely, from the standpoint Mahomes reportedly wanted Edwards-Helaire, but possible.

Queen has yet to make a significant impact with the Ravens. Playing above 70 percent of the Ravens defensive snaps through two games, he’s scored a 42 according to Pro Football Focus’ grading system and logged 17 combined tackles. It wouldn’t be surprising if the Chiefs find ways to test his preparedness early in the game
