Harrison Butker has received the AFC Special Teams Player award for Week 2.

It was the most obvious player win for Week 2. After kicking multiple franchise record-tying field goals in his team’s win over the Los Angeles Chargers, Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker has been awarded the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

In case you missed it, Butker made all three field goal attempts in the Chiefs close road win over the Chargers—including two 58-yard attempts, which tied the team record set by Nick Lowery. What made the performance even more amazing, beyond the distance of the official field goals made, was the timing of those conversions and the ones that were not official.

When it comes to timing, Butker’s first long field goal salvaged a drive that had stalled at an inopportune time, one that would have given the Chargers a very real chance to pull away early given the Chiefs’ offensive frustrations in the first half (Patrick Mahomes had 60 passing yards at halftime). The second field goal made tied the game from 30 yards out and then, of course, the overtime kick—the other 58 yarder made—won the game.

In addition, Butker also nailed both a 53-yard kick and yet another 58-yard attempt. Unfortunately the first was nullified by a Nick Allegretti false start call that pushed the Chiefs back five yards in an end-of-game situation. The second was ruined by a timeout called by the Chargers to “ice” the kicker. In the end, Butker kept his cool and maintained both his strength and accuracy in a rare display of excellence.

Butker was undoubtedly the team’s MVP in Week 2 and turned heads around the NFL for his consistency in the Chiefs win. If he stays healthy and consistent, he’s well on his way to a second Pro Bowl as well as regular mentions in conversations for the NFL’s best kicker.
