The Chiefs added an experienced lineman with the addition of Danny Isidora.

With the signing of veteran offensive lineman Danny Isidora, the Kansas City Chiefs have added significant experience to their front line in case of an emergency.

This season, the NFL is allowing up to four spots on each team’s practice squad—the size of which has been increased to 16 slots for each franchise—to be a veteran player. Isidora joins the Chiefs after spending last season with the Miami Dolphins.

Isidora first joined the league with the Minnesota Vikings as the team’s fifth round draft choice back in 2017. Isidora was a Miami (Fl.) product who started long-term at right guard for the Hurricanes and was named second-team All-ACC in ’16.

From there, he went on to serve as a backup and spot starter for the Vikings for the next two seasons, playing in as many as 14 games in 2018. The Dolphins traded a seventh round pick for him entering the 2019 season, and Isidora locked up a starting guard spot for Miami from the outset. Unfortunately he was injured for the rest of the season after going down in Week 3 in a loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

With the Chiefs, Isidora will remain on the team’s practice squad until another team signs him away to their active roster or the Chiefs elevate him to their own. His presence gives them some experience to back up the guard roles currently occupied by Kelechi Osemele and Andrew Wylie, both of whom have dealt with injuries in the last couple seasons. The Chiefs also have Nick Allegretti and Yasir Durant as their primary backups for now, but both players have yet to start an NFL game.
