Power ranking the AFC West by position groups
Tight Ends
4) Los Angeles Chargers
It was not that long ago that the Chargers had future Pro Football Hall of Fame Antonio Gates and the hottest young tight end in the league, Hunter Henry. That seems like ions ago as Gates is now retired, and Henry has failed to stay healthy for a single season since he’s been the league, let alone be a top five player at the position as originally hoped. The Chargers need to hope for a miracle, here.
3) Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos have one of those hot young tight ends that many think could eventually be one of the top tight ends in the league in second year man Noah Fant. The team also has high hopes for 2020 draftee Albert Okwuegbunam, who played with quarterback Drew Lock at Missouri. Right now, both are relatively unknown and we’ll see how they pay off.
2) Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders may have caught lightning in a bottle with the selection of Darren Waller, who was one of the top tight ends in the entire league a season ago. Presumptively, he’ll continue to grow and become a legitimate top five player at the position. This offseason, the team brought in future Pro Football Hall of Famer Jason Witten, who not only provides solid backup and depth for Las Vegas, but should also aide in Waller’s development.
1) Kansas City Chiefs
Like the quarterback position, the Chiefs’ starting tight end Travis Kelce is so much better than every other tight end in the AFC West that the depth simply does not really matter. If Kelce is ever hurt, the Chiefs could certainly find themselves in some sticky situations with virtual unknown Nick Kiezer and (presumptively) Deon Yelder behind him as the TE3. But, fortunately, Kelce has been incredibly durable since injury cost him his entire rookie year, and the Chiefs continue to roll the dice on his continued health. The future Pro Football Hall of Famer has the Chiefs at the top here.
