13. Tyrod Taylor/Justin Herbert

If you look at a lot of NFL quarterback rankings, you’ll find Tyrod Taylor at the bottom of most lists. I’m admittedly higher on Taylor than most. In fact, at one point I had him as high as tenth on this list. I actually believe that Taylor may be better for the Los Angeles Chargers than Philip Rivers was last season. Rivers often hurt the team with costly turnovers and whenever Taylor has had the chance to start he has done a nice job of protecting the football.

Like Fitzpatrick, the threat of Taylor losing his job to rookie Justin Herbert kept me from going too crazy on how high I put Taylor. However, if Taylor can be an Alex Smith like distributor on offense and the Chargers defense plays up to their potential, I think the Chargers will be in the playoff hunt which could keep Herbert on the bench. When you throw in the fact that Herbert didn’t get a full offseason and preseason games to help his growth, it’s not a bad thing to have him redshirt his rookie season.

Some people may feel that I have Taylor too high at 13, but I actually believe there is a chance that at the end of this season Taylor is a guy that surprises, similar to how Ryan Tannehill did in Tennessee last season.
