Defensive Line

1. Tanoh Kpassagnon
2. Mike Pennel
3. Taco Charlton

While Tanoh Kpassagnon, Mike Pennel, and Taco Charlton could all have key roles in the Chiefs defensive line rotation this season, the Chiefs do at least have some depth at the position to mitigate their potential departures in 2021. Pennel was great at defensive tackle during the team’s Super Bowl run, but with Chris Jones, Derrick Nnadi, and Khalen Saunders all under contract in 2021, they should be okay at defensive tackle.

Defensive end could be a little more complicated. They have Frank Clark locked up for the long term, but opposite him, there could be a little bit of a hole if both Kpassagnon and Charlton leave. The Chiefs would need Alex Okafor to prove he can stay healthy or that Breeland Speaks or Michael Danna are up for a much bigger role in the defense after this coming season.

The defensive front four looks like it will be really deep in 2020 and shouldn’t be a huge concern moving forward, but it will be worth keeping an eye on Okafor, Speaks, and Danna to see if it looks like any of them can be counted on to carry the load after this season.

Next up, the linebackers.
