The Kansas City Chiefs could lose a ton of free agents in 2021

Wide Receivers

1. Sammy Watkins
2. Demarcus Robinson
3. Byron Pringle

This is the first position where I think there are more serious concerns about the depth of the position in 2021 with a possible salary cap issue. Yes, the Chiefs will have Tyreek Hill and Mecole Hardman under contract as the primary weapons, but it’s possible that the rest of the receivers on the 53-man roster this season could all be gone. It’s especially hard to see any way that they keep a starting caliber player like Watkins around after this year.

It’s possible that either Robinson or Pringle could re-sign on a team-friendly deal. That would definitely help because with Andy Reid‘s complicated playbook, it will be hard for a bunch of new wideouts to come in off the street. Once again, it will be interesting to see if there are any young wideouts that the Chiefs stash on the practice squad in hopes of elevating them in 2021 as a cheap replacement. A guy like Jody Fortson could be one option there. Fortson is a larger receiver and could be a nice contrast to smaller, faster guys like Hill and Hardman.

Unfortunately, the possible depth issues for Patrick Mahomes targets in 2021 don’t stop at wideout.
