The Browns have signed former Chiefs offensive lineman Jovahn Fair.

Two weeks ago, the Kansas City Chiefs released several young players previously signed after the 2020 NFL Draft in hopes of getting down to the 80-man roster limit set forth by the NFL this preseason. According to NFL reporter Tom Withers, one of those players has found a new home with the Cleveland Browns.

The Browns have signed former Chiefs offensive lineman Jovahn Fair, giving him another chance to turn heads before the regular season begins. Fair signed with the Chiefs after the draft as a rookie free agent hoping to land a spot along the interior offensive line but the team decided to move on quickly once it was clear that the NFL preseason was going to limit rosters in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

John Lovett, a quarterback turned hybrid offensive prospect out of Princeton, was the first player from the players released by the Chiefs to find meaningful work. The Green Bay Packers submitted a claim and seem pleased with the early returns. Now Fair hopes to draw the same praise from Kevin Stefanski and the rest of the Browns coaching staff.

Fair is a strong, experienced prospect for the Browns, a four-year starter on an impressive line at Temple (which also featured NFL Draftee Matt Hennessy). Fair, who stands 6’3 and weighs 315 lbs., profiles as a guard or center at the next level. He was the first Temple player to start four bowl games.

The Browns boast a solid offensive front and it will be hard for Fair to break camp with the active roster. He’ll need to look better than other developmental faces like Colby Gossett, Malcolm Pridgeon, and Evan Brown if he’s going to get a chance. Fortunately, expanded practice squads could allow him to showcase enough potential to earn a spot there.
