3. Frankie Hammond, Jr.

Frankie Hammond, Jr. joined the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted rookie free agent prior to the 2014 NFL season. During that year’s training camp and preseason, he was a star. The Chiefs likely believed they caught lightning in a bottle with this signing. He was, quite literally, that good.

However, it never translated to any in-season success or production. He stayed with Kansas City for two seasons, but he was rarely on the field and never productive when he was.

In 2014, Hammond did return 15 punts for the team, but was mediocre in the role. Over the course of those two years, he had four receptions on 11 targets for a mere 45 yards. In the 2015 playoffs, Hammond, Jr. managed to haul in two receptions over the two games, but gained only five yards combined.

Despite his lack of productivity, the Chiefs kept him around for the offseason and preseason in 2016, but cut the former Florida Gator prior to the regular season.

Hammond, Jr. was out of football through the 2016 season, but signed a futures contract with the New York Jets in January of 2017. He held on to a roster spot through the preseason, but the franchise moved on prior to the start of the season.

Hammond never made it onto another NFL roster. For as excited as we all were about his potential, it was disappointing that it never worked out for the former Chief.
