In the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs selected Jon Baldwin, a wide receiver out of Pittsburgh. The 6-4, 225 pound pass catcher was a stud for the Pitt Panthers in college, and the Chiefs were convinced his skills would translate to the NFL. The hope was that he could give them another dependable target opposite Dwayne Bowe.

Baldwin was a stud in training camp and the preseason. His runs at 1:30 a.m. had Chiefs Kingdom excited for his focus. At one point, it was believed that he and Bowe would form the best receiving duo in the division, if not the conference. He looked big, strong, and ready to compete.

Despite the effort, Baldwin only played for two years in Kansas City. During that time he appeared in 26 games but managed only 41 catches for less than 600 yards. His route-running was subpar, and he was not physical at the point of attack. The team’s quarterback play didn’t help, but he never displayed the ability that made him a first round pick. Eventually, he seemed disinterested and unwilling to put in the hard work necessary to be an NFL player.

Now, Baldwin is now considered one of the worst first round picks in team history, an honor he certainly deserves. The Chiefs traded him to the San Francisco 49ers for fellow underachiever A.J. Jenkins, but he never panned out in the Bay Area either.
