3rd round (95th overall): Jordan Davis, DL, Georgia

The Chiefs move back to the trenches with their final pick on Day 2 here with the selection of Jordan Davis. This gives them three SEC performers in three picks.

The most noticeable thing about Davis is his immense stature. He stands at 6’5″, 330 lbs. and is an immovable anchor in the middle for the Bulldogs when he plays. Davis had 18 tackles and 2.5 sacks last season as a rotational lineman for Georgia.

Davis has tremendous strength and would be an immediate asset for the Chiefs against the run. Just how much he can develop into something more than that is the biggest developmental question. Issues about his stamina will also come into view for scouts making projections for Davis. Both of these together will determine if he’ll really fall to the bottom of the third round.

The Chiefs have invested heavily along the offensive line in recent drafts, but depth in the trenches is a major need for every team. Chris Jones is the well-paid interior lineman and he’s surroundd by Derrick Nnadi and Khalen Saunders who are both on their rookie deals as well. The addition of Davis would likely spell the end of Mike Pennel‘s tenure with the team, giving them a younger version of the run stopper on the field.
