Former Chiefs back LeSean McCoy landed with Tom Brady and the Buccaneers.

Former Kansas City Chiefs running back LeSean McCoy has officially found a new home for the 2020 season after signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

McCoy lasted a single season with the Chiefs after signing with them shortly before the 2019 season began. McCoy was cut by the Buffalo Bills in a surprise preseason move, and McCoy was the Chiefs best back for the first half of the season. However, some untimely fumbles knocked him down the depth chart and McCoy was a healthy scratch down the stretch and into the postseason.

Earlier this offseason, McCoy mentioned that he’s still chasing the 12,000 yard rushing yards mark in his career. At present, McCoy has 11,071 rushing yards so far in his career and he’s likely going to need more than one season to reach his goal, which should cement his Hall of Fame credentials after such a productive career.

For the Buccaneers, the addition of McCoy gives them another veteran to add to the mix of an offseason that has featured acquisitions like quarterback Tom Brady and tight end Rob Gronkowski. McCoy will likely split carries with Ronald Jones with younger players like seventh round pick Raymond Calais, T.J. Logan, and Dare Ogunbowale chasing lower spots on the depth chart.

McCoy, who is now 32 years old, had 101 carries for 465 yards and 4 touchdowns last year for the Chiefs on the ground in 2019 and another 28 catches for 181 receiving yards and 1 touchdown reception. Next year will be McCoy’s 12th year in the league.
