The Dolphins claimed Javaris Davis on waivers from the Chiefs.

One day after the Kansas City Chiefs waived two players in wide receiver Cody White and cornerback Javaris Davis, the latter found a new home after being claimed by the Miami Dolphins.

The Chiefs waived the players on Sunday in a series of roster moves that created space for newly signed guard Kelechi Osemele on the roster. Wide receiver Aleva Hifo was placed on the reserve/COVID list while seventh round draft pick Thakarius “BoPete” Keyes was placed on the non-football injury list.

Davis was a promising undrafted free agent out of Auburn, but despite the need for competition at cornerback, the Chiefs clearly felt like they should go ahead and cut him free as training camp got underway.

Davis profiles best as a potential slot corner in the NFL where his 5’8″ size won’t be such an issue as it would be on the boundary. It will, however, hurt him tackling at the highest level. While his tackling was a strength during his SEC days, it will be interesting to see how he’s able to adjust to even bigger athletes in the league.

Still, Davis has a nice body of work against top competition with 150 tackles, 32 passes defended, and 8 interceptions during his four-year career on the field (he redshirted his true freshman season). Now he joins his former Auburn teammate Noah Igbinoghene in a secondary that could impress in Brian Flores’ second season with the team given the presence of Byron Jones and Xavien Howard.

Fortunately for Davis, there’s real opportunity to stick with an impressive preseason as depth remains an issue behind the Dolphins starters.

Next. Confidence, Preparation are Key for A Chiefs Dynasty. dark
