Alex Brown/BoPete Keyes/Lavert Hill

This last one is a little different than the rest of this list. For this last one there are three guys who I believe have a shot at one possible spot on the roster.

It’s possible that the Chiefs will keep as many as six cornerbacks on the 53 man roster. I think Charvarius Ward, Bashaud Breeland, Rashad Fenton, L’Jarius Sneed, and Antonio Hamilton (special teams ace) are all locks to make the team, if healthy. That’s five spots already with a maximum of six that they’ll keep.

The Chiefs carried ten total defensive backs most of last season. If you add safeties Tyrann Mathieu, Juan Thornhill, Daniel Sorensen, and Armani Watts to those other five I listed, that gives you nine guys. By my calculations, that leaves one spot for the fight between Alex Brown, BoPete Keyes, and Lavert Hill.

Normally, there would be plenty of time for that battle to play out, but the initial pecking order of those guys could end up having a big impact on who actually stays. Alex Brown (while many might not be familiar with him) was actually on the 53-man roster at the end of last season. That could give him an advantage, but BoPete Keyes was K.C.’s final draft pick this year and Lavert Hill was one of the top undrafted corners available after the draft. Those three need to bring their “A game” in practice, because there won’t be much room for error. One small slip-up could put them out of reach of the 53-man roster with very little opportunity to change things.

Update: there are reports today Keyes has been placed on the non football injury list. My guess is he may be stashed on IR this season, making this spot Brown’s to lose with Hill left on the practice squad.

So there you have it Chiefs fans: my players who will be hurt the most by not having a regular offseason and preseason games. What do you think of this list? Do you think any of these guys are actually safe and I’ve got it wrong? Are there other players that you think will be hurt by the lack of preseason games even more? I’d love to read your thoughts in the comments below.
