Here are the Chiefs best options to replace Laurent Duvernay-Tardif in 2020.

The Kansas City Chiefs have some shifting along their offensive front to consider after news broke that starting right guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif decided to opt out for the 2020 season, becoming the first NFL player to do so.

Duvernay-Tardif has been a fixture at the position next to Mitchell Schwartz since the 2015 season. However, the team is also used to having to fill in for at least a couple starts every season due to some sort of minor or major injury to LDT. He missed two starts last year (ankle), most of the season in 2018 (broken leg), missed a few more in 2017 (knee), and another ankle injury kept him out for just a bit in 2016 as well.

This means the Chiefs have at least some experience in putting someone new next to Schwartz and hoping for the best.

Unfortunately for the Chiefs, the left guard spot was already a question mark coming into the season after watching Stefen Wisniewski, who wrested the starting role from Andrew Wylie, sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers in free agency. The bottom line is that left guard was already a carousel of candidates in need of an upgrade and now right guard is just as open.

Here’s a look at the players and why they might or might not win the right to start in LDT’s place.
