Chris Jones will be the virtual Grand Marshal for the Super Start Batteries 400.

It might not take that much work to actually serve as a Grand Marshal for a race, but Chris Jones is exactly the kind of passionate, charismatic personality you want in place .

Jones, the defensive lineman for the Kansas City Chiefs, has worked his way to NFL stardom with his incredible skill set and demonstrative demeanor, and he’ll be able to show off the latter as the virtual Grand Marshal for the upcoming Super Start Batteries 400, part of the NASCAR Cup series to be held at Kansas Speedway.

As part of his duties, Jones will be giving the familiar opening refrain for a race with the statement, “Drivers, start your engines!” Kevin Harvick, Kevin Busch, and Ryan Blaney are among the favorites to win the race, according to betting odds.

It’s already been a week to remember for Jones, who finally received the big-money extension he was hoping for in recent years. The Chiefs signed Jones to a four-year deal worth up to $85 million in recent days as the Chiefs made good on their stated intent of keeping Jones around for the long haul. For Jones, the payday was the culmination of a lot of hard work and production for the Chiefs over the last four seasons.

Jones, who recently turned 26 years old, has 20 forced fumbles, 72 quarterback hits, 33 sacks and 2 interceptions in his career so far.

The Super Start Batteries 400 begins on Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. C.T. and will be shown on NBCSN.
