Chris Jones says it’s time for the Chiefs to create their dynasty.

These days, everyone in Kansas City seems to be discussing the long-term view. Perhaps it’s because the players, coaches, and staff members of the Chiefs are very aware of their potential for true greatness.

A few months after lifting the very first Lombardi Trophy in 50 years, the Chiefs are thinking well beyond another championship. They’re considerable the potential of a dynasty, the sort of run of long-term success only enjoyed by a handful of franchises in NFL history. Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes is talking about his legacy at the age of 24. And now defensive tackle Chris Jones is also getting in on the act.

In a recent interview on 610 Sports, Jones stated his goal was not to get back to the Super Bowl or even to win it. Instead, he’s making parade plans for several more. Here are his quotes via Pro Football Talk.

"“This is only the beginning,” Jones said. “We plan to have another parade and another parade and another parade. We’re going to make sure we bring not one, not two, not three, not four, but five-plus rings to Kansas City. It’s been 50 years of waiting, but the wait is over now. It’s time to create a dynasty.”"

If that sounds like a tall order, it is. It’s very difficult for any team to even repeat as Super Bowl champions, as illustrated by the fact that only one team—the New England Patriots—has done it since Y2K was a global concern. If the Chiefs were to somehow win another four Super Bowls to make Jones’ promise come true, it would give them six championships in their franchise history, matching the league’s all-time leaders of the Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Just one more would tie them with their division rivals, as both the Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders have three apiece.

Five rings or even more sounds a bit ridiculous for a franchise that just turned the corner, but the Chiefs are a different breed than before and the players know it. The have the NFL’s most talented player in the position that matters most and they’ve surrounded him for the next few years with a cast of Pro Bowlers on both sides of the ball. The coaching staff is second-to-none and the culture in K.C. is healthy as ever. This is a franchise that’s going places and Jones believes we’ll be talking about parades for years to come.
