Who stands atop the rankings of the Kansas City Chiefs top head coaches ever?

When the Kansas City Chiefs won Super Bowl LIV, it was the cherry on top of head coach Andy Reid‘s already illustrious career and cemented his spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Reid has been fantastic since he arrived in K.C. and in just seven seasons, he’s made a strong case for being the best coach in the team’s history. The Chiefs have been fortunate to have several great head coaches in their history, so I thought it would be interesting to do a list of the best Chiefs head coaches of all time.

Without giving too much away right out of the gate, there are a few things that are pretty clear cut when making a list of the top five Chiefs coaches and a few that are not. I don’t see how you could argue that the top two spots should belong to anyone other than Andy Reid and Hall of Fame coach Hank Stram, but who deserves to be number one? I think that the third and fourth spots are pretty much locked in place and would have a hard time entertaining anyone else for those spots. Then there is the fifth spot….

In my opinion, the Chiefs have employed three legendary coaches, one good one, and then it gets pretty sketchy. You can actually make a pretty strong argument that there isn’t a fifth coach that deserves to be on a “best” list based on their coaching success in Kansas City. Keep that in mind when you see my pick for the fifth spot. All the options were failures in Kansas City, but I believe one on them did something that edged out the others.

So without further ado, let’s get this list started with the 5th “best” coach in team history.
