Top 10 Kansas City Chiefs achievements of all time
Marcus Peters – 26 Passes Defended
The Kansas City Chiefs selected Marcus Peters 18th overall in the 2015 NFL Draft out of the University of Washington. Were it not for some personal troubles between Peters and his college coaches, it’s likely Peters would have gone much higher as he was widely regarded as the best cornerback in the draft. Peters was the first and only time the Chiefs invested in a cornerback in the first round in the Andy Reid tenure and only the second time they had done so since 1992.
Needless to say, Peters rookie season was a sight for sore eyes. During that year he led the league with eight interceptions, 280 return yards and two touchdowns. He set four Chiefs records en route to a Second Team All Pro nomination and the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year award.
Peters receives an honorable mention on this list of Chiefs achievements in part for his overall rookie season but primarily due to his 26 passes defended. On top of his gaudy production in interceptions, he tied for the league lead in passes defended and the third most all-time.
Otis Taylor – 22.4 yards per reception
Otis Taylor is one of the greatest players in Chiefs history and arguably the greatest wide receiver in franchise history. He had a spectacular career with the team, as a deadly weapon in a great offense that helped the team win the 1966 and 1969 AFL Championships and Super Bowl IV in 1969.
By his second season in the NFL, Taylor’s talents were clear for all to see. He finished the season second in receiving yards with 1,297, but the more impressive stat was his yards per reception. At 22.36 yards per reception, Taylor owned the sixth highest average in the history of both the NFL and AFL for players with 50 receptions or more in a season.
Today he maintains the 10th best average for that criteria and for that he receives an honorable mention on the list of greatest Chiefs achievements of all time.
