The Kansas City Chiefs have placed wide receiver Felton Davis on waivers.

One day after word leaked that the Kansas City Chiefs were re-signing defensive back Andrew Soroh, the team officially made room for the defender by placing wide receiver Felton Davis on waivers with a non-football injury designation.

Davis first arrived in Kansas City as an undrafted free agent immediately following the 2019 NFL Draft. Davis went unselected but showed enough in a partial season cut short due to an Achilles injury that left him with a shortened senior year of only 31 catches for the Spartans. He had 474 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns.

The Chiefs brought in Davis as a big developmental target (6’3″) to compete for a special teams role and he outlasted other NFL hopefuls like Cody Thompson and Jamal Custis. However the Chiefs clearly felt like they’d seen enough after letting him go to be able to sign Soroh, who is fresh off of a stint in the XFL.

With Davis out of the picture, the Chiefs still have a very crowded receivers room to bring to training camp. Beyond the big four of Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins, Mecole Hardman and Demarcus Robinson, the Chiefs have brought in a talented group of young players who show promise. Holdovers like Byron Pringle and Gehrig Dieter likely hold an edge over the newly-arriving, but with undrafted free agents like Kalija Lipscomb, Aleva Hifo, Cody White, Maurice Ffrench and others, training camp will be fun to watch.

Davis is now on waivers and should be able to catch on with another team.
