5. Brian Waters

After going undrafted in the 2000 NFL Draft, North Texas guard Brian Waters signed a UDFA contract with the Dallas Cowboys. However, they cut the prospect during the preseason and he caught on with the Chiefs. Kansas City is incredibly fortunate that he did.

Waters played in only six games during his rookie campaign, then started eight in his second year, before becoming a full time starter for the Chiefs for the next eight seasons, missing only three of the team’s 128 regular season games in that span. Waters became a fundamental part of the Chiefs high-flying offenses led by Trent Green and Dick Vermeil, including being part of what was one of the greatest offensive lines ever constructed (featuring two future Hall of Famers in Willie Roaf and Will Shields).

Waters, of course, is not as heralded as his Hall of Fame contemporaries, but he did make five Pro Bowls as a Chief (six total), and was twice named a 1st Team All-Pro selection. Like Lowery, he also found himself on our All-Time 55 man roster, backing up Chiefs legend Will Shields.

In addition to being a great football player, he was also a great ambassador for the NFL, and was named the 2009 Walter Payton Man of the Year for his efforts.
