Javier Arenas, 2nd Round, Alabama (2010)

An extremely decorated player from Alabama with a National Championship and consensus All-American to go with being SEC Special Teams Player of the year, I thought he had it all. I had the chance to meet him down at the Plaza when he was with Eric Berry, and he was an extremely nice person to go with all of the accolades. From seemingly having it all both on and off the field, I was hooked on him being a stud. While he had some moments in Kansas City, it was tough not only trying to live up to being a second round draft pick but the pick that was traded for Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez.

While I envisioned him to be the special teams ace and a lockdown slot corner, it never worked out as planned. In the end he got traded to the Arizona Cardinals for Anthony Sherman which was a huge win for the Chiefs.

While putting so much faith in 5’9 slot corner was probably foolish of me to begin with, the accolades from college really had me attached. As we have seen time and time again, college domination doesn’t always translate to the faster, bigger, NFL. Seeing all of the outstanding returns in college gave a glimpse to some Dante Hall potential, which as we have seen, no one is the X-Factor.

So who is on your list? Drop your examples either in the comments below or tweet me @HomestretchKC.
