1. Patrick Mahomes

Perhaps this is not a surprise to any of you. There is certainly a lot that can be said about Patrick Mahomes.

After spending the first 16 weeks of his rookie season behind Alex Smith, Mahomes gave us a preview of what we could expect from him in Week 17 of his rookie year in 2017 when the Chiefs visited the Broncos. But little did we know what Mahomes would quickly become.

Mahomes printed his name in the record books early. The first notable record was his 10 touchdown passes in the first two weeks, the most by a quarterback in the first two games of a season.

As everyone knows, Mahomes went on to finish that year with 50 touchdown passes and more than 5,000 yards passing. Mahomes led the Chiefs to their first postseason home win in 25 years.

Mahomes showed a lot of toughness this past year, playing through multiple injuries while leading the Chiefs. After missing two games with a knee injury, Mahomes came back strong and eventually led the Chiefs to their first Super Bowl win in 50 years.

Mahomes is already fifth all-time in franchise history with total touchdown passes. Mahomes has 13 touchdown passes in the playoffs, the most by a quarterback in the franchise’s postseason history. Mahomes only needs 24 yards to surpass Len Dawson for most passing yards in the playoffs in Chiefs history.

Mahomes already owns MVP awards in the regular season, the Pro Bowl and Super Bowl.

Chiefs fans waited a long time for the team to draft a franchise quarterback. There was a lot of pain before, but Mahomes has made it worth the wait.
