2. Frank Clark

The start of Frank Clark’s career as a Kansas City Chief didn’t go as planned. Clark was playing through a pinched nerve in his neck to start the season. Symptoms included pain in his neck, burning throughout his arm, and numbness in his fingers. That news wasn’t released until Clark would sit for a couple of weeks. It explained the lack of explosion and production early in the season.

In December, Clark was playing through a stomach illness that caused him to drop significant weight. He even spent time in the hospital. Despite the stomach illness, Clark toughed it out and played considerable time. Against the Denver Broncos late in the season, the Chiefs were struggling with defensive line injuries, which put Clark on the field for even longer.

If there is one thing that Chiefs fans learned from Frank Clark in 2019, it’s that he’s not going to make excuses, and he will battle through just about anything to be on the field. Returning from 2 games off for his neck, Clark had back-to-back games with a sack before the bye week. In the last 5 games of the season, he finished with 3 more sacks.

5 real impact came in the playoffs, where he would put up five sacks, 7 quarterback hits, and 5 tackles for a loss in three games. Clark was relentless and disruptive in all three playoff games that helped the Chiefs win the Super Bowl. Alongside Tyrann Mathieu, Clark brought leadership and nastiness to a defense that had been soft in years past.
