The Kansas City Chiefs remain on top of the latest round of NFL Power Rankings—post-draft edition—thanks to the offensive infusion of RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire.

With the dust settled on the crazy amount of activities surrounding another annual NFL Draft, Dan Hanzus of NFL.com has decided to release a post-draft version of NFL Power Rankings.

Power Rankings are, in general, a meaningless exercise, akin to ranking your favorite songs in any particular week, but it does provide some fun talking points all year round for football fans and allows us to sort of sort things out competitively to see just how good each team when stacked up against each other with some amount of consideration.

The latest round of power rankings feature the Kansas City Chiefs at the very top spot and they shouldn’t move from there until official play starts again. Even if the Chiefs had drafted fake players, the very fact that they are the defending Super Bowl champions give them the right to stay on top until they are knocked off, but it helps that Brett Veach has put together a stellar offseason.

Before the draft, the Chiefs have focused on bringing back anyone who was even a part-time contributor save for just a couple spots (which also means they’ve returned 20 of 22 starters from the Super Bowl winning squad). From there, Veach has walked a financial tightrope while adding important role players to fill needs—including Mike Remmers along the offensive front and Antonio Hamilton in the secondary.

Now with the draft behind him, the Chiefs’ roster now boasts a dynamic new offensive weapon in Clyde Edwards-Helaire, the top running back taken in the draft. The Chiefs also added Willie Gay, Jr., a linebacker who excels in coverage who should elevate the play of the team’s second level considerably.

When it came to listing the Chiefs first, Hanzus focused primarily on Edwards-Helaire’s addition to the team.

"“…imagine a 2020 Chiefs attack using Edwards the way Reid used Brian Westbrook to befuddle opposing defenses in Philadelphia. Big Red said that Edwards-Helaire is better than Westbrook. It begs the question: Are we about to see the full potential of this Chiefsoffense? It’s a terrifying thought for the rest of the NFL.”"

Edwards-Helaire should immediately slot into a starting role in the backfield and work in tandem with Damien Williams, who was very nearly the Super Bowl MVP and has been a postseason hero for the last two years. Together, the Chiefs’ running game and overall offensive attack is in great hands.
