Patrick Queen, LB, LSU

The Chiefs need a linebacker, and Patrick Queen is my guy for them. He’s a 6’0″, 229 lb. linebacker from LSU who ran a 4.5 40-yard dash and would be a great fit for any team in need of a solid linebacker. Along with his speed, he’s  excellent at tracking guys down and making the tackle, something coveted in a Chiefs’ linebacker.

Whether Queen makes it to the Chiefs’ first round pick or not is the biggest question. There’s a good chance he gets drafted earlier, but if he’s available for the Chiefs at 32, there’s no doubt in my mind he’s the guy to go for. In my mind, he’s the second best linebacker in this class, only behind Isaiah Simmons.

Kenneth Murray, LB, Oklahoma

A guy I think is extremely similar to Patrick Queen is Kenneth Murray from Oklahoma. Murray stands at 6’2″, 241 lbs. and ran a 4.52 second time in the 40-yard dash. In his freshman year, Murray made 68 tackles including 7 tackles for a loss and 1 sack. And it only went up from there. Over his last two seasons, he’s racked up 257 tackles, 29.5 tackles for a loss, and 8.5 sacks.

If Queen is gone, then Murray is the next best thing for the Chiefs. He’s another excellent tackler who will improve the linebacker position immensely. If Murray makes it to the Chiefs’ first round pick, I’d take him for sure.

Joe Bachie, LB, Michigan State

If the Chiefs miss out on Queen and Murray, then I like Joe Bachie out of Michigan State. Bachie had two great years after his freshman season and was well on his way to a third before he failed a drug test his senior year and lost his appeal, which ended his college career. But in his three best seasons, including a little over half of his senior season, Bachie posted 274 tackles with 26 tackles for a loss and 7 sacks.

The failed drug test is, of course, a red flag, but he’s a guy I wouldn’t mind the Chiefs taking on day three. He’s not a star like Patrick Queen or Kenneth Murray, but he’s a guy who could see playing time on the field this year and develop into a solid NFL linebacker.
