The Kansas City Chiefs have interviewed Michigan State cornerback Josiah Scott as part of their pre-draft homework before this week’s big event.

Michigan State cornerback is getting significant face time—er, make that FaceTime—with several NFL teams in the days and weeks leading up to the 2020 NFL Draft. The Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs are among those teams. Per Justin Melo of Draft Wire, it’s a list that also includes competitors like the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens.

Scott is a small, speedy corner from the Big Ten who turned pro after his junior season with the Spartans. Last year, Scott had 52 tackles, 3 interceptions, and 6 deflected passes. Scott has dealt with injuries over the last two seasons, even though he managed to play in 12 games last year, and the 2018 meniscus injury will be something to watch for any team going forward.

At the NFL Combine, Scott stood at 5’9, 185 lbs., so he’s slight, to be sure, but his speed, agility, hands and instincts are going to help him earn a likely nickel corner role if he can stay healthy. At the very least, Scott will earn contributor snaps in sub packages from the outset and on special teams until he steps into slightly larger roles.

For the Chiefs, Scott would be a nice mid-round addition with top-tier speed (he ran the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine in 4.42 seconds) who could rotate with Rashad Fenton and company inside. Bashaud Breeland and Charvarius Ward would assume the boundary roles if Scott was the only addition via the draft with Alex Brown and Antonio Hamilton providing competition all around.
