Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce appeared on First Take recently and he predicted a rematch of the Chiefs and 49ers in this year’s Super Bowl.

The Kansas City Chiefs are ready to “run it back.” Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce believes the San Francisco 49ers are ready to do the same.

As a recent guest on ESPN’s daily show First Take, the annual Pro Bowler was asked what he thought of several subjects, including a prediction for Super Bowl 55 given that his team just lifted the Lombardi in Super Bowl 54. Kelce didn’t hesitate to state his confidence in his own team to get back to the biggest game in football, but he also gave plenty of respect to their opponents in SB54, the 49ers.

“Obviously we haven’t seen the draft. We haven’t seen a full offseason of free agency, so you don’t know who’s going to end up where. But I honestly think it will be a rematch of Super Bowl 54,” said Kelce. “I think the San Francisco 49ers are one heck of a team. They’re very, very well-coached. They’re very disciplined in who they are and obviously they’re very talented in who they are.”

The Niners were yet another team that had the Chiefs on the ropes last postseason, a run of games in which the Chiefs were behind by a significant total in every single playoff appearance. In the Super Bowl, Kyle Shanahan’s team was up 20-10 with less than seven minutes to play in the game. It was then that the Chiefs finally came to life and put up 21 straight points to win 31-20—a  run that began on a 1-yard touchdown catch by Kelce. Kelce finished with six catches for 43 yards and 1 touchdown on the night.

This offseason, the Chiefs have placed major emphasis on bringing back as many faces as they could who took them to the big game last year. From Sammy Watkins and Chris Jones on the expensive side to Mike Pennel and Bashaud Breeland, the Chiefs brought back 20 of 22 starting players from the Super Bowl. The Chiefs have lost a few players, but a couple new free agents and a draft class should bolster the roster with plenty of depth for another deep postseason run.
