Kansas City Chiefs general manager Brett Veach held a conference call with reporters to discuss the team’s pre-draft preparation and more.

Kansas City Chiefs general manager Brett Veach held a conference call with reporters today to discuss the upcoming NFL Draft, Chris Jones contract discussions, and the inevitable (and necessary) extension of star quarterback and reigning Super Bowl Most Valuable Player Patrick Mahomes.

This was all done in the context of the COVID-19 quarantine which means that Veach was at home on a Zoom call.

A number of reporters noticed something interesting about his setup…

Do you see it? Let me zoom in a bit for you…

Veach has embraced (and framed) the famous “Jet Chip Wasp” play that has become synonymous with the Chiefs’ come-from-behind victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV. If you remember (and I am sure you do) the Chiefs were down 10 in the fourth quarter when, during a review, quarterback Patrick Mahomes uttered the famous question to head coach Andy Reid, “Do we have time to run Wasp?”

Any down. Any distance. He didn’t care. That genius offensive play sparked the Chiefs’ comeback and led to the team’s first Super Bowl victory in 50 years—since Super Bowl IV. It’s fun to know that Veach places as much significance on this singular moment in time as the rest of us do, especially when we are so starved for entertainment.

I can’t wait until we get back to normal, and we can see the Chiefs play again at Arrowhead Stadium. For now, we will have to relive the glorious moment. Hang in there, Chiefs Kingdom. Keep social distancing and maybe, just maybe, we can see another Wasp moment in the near future.
