The Kansas City Chiefs are just one of many, many teams showing interest in offensive lineman Robert Hunt before the NFL Draft.

At this point, it would be easier to count the number of NFL franchises who have not exhibited public interest in learning more about offensive lineman Robert Hunt.

With the 2020 NFL Draft coming into view (one week!), the Kansas City Chiefs, like every other team, are crossing the proverbial t’s by checking on various prospects and FaceTiming with Hunt was one such exercise.

Unfortunately for the Chiefs, if they like Hunt, they’re going to face considerable competition for his services.

Hunt is often considered one of the top interior linemen available in the draft with Michigan center Cesar Ruiz listed at the very top. However, for some teams, Hunt’s potential could elevate him even over Ruiz as a potential Day 1 consideration. Certainly Hunt won’t last through Day 2 for teams seeking help along the offensive interior.

Hunt looks the part with a stature of 6’5, 323 lbs. He also comes with four years of starting experience for UL-Lafayette after redshirting his freshman year. He’s also started double digit games apiece at left tackle, left guard and right tackle in that span of time, which makes him extremely versatile from the outset.

For a team like the Chiefs, who have already shown interest in guard help (e.g. Andrus Peat in free agency), a player like Hunt could be inserted straight into the starting lineup (likely at left guard) for the 2020 season. From there, he has the versatility to fill in at either tackle spot in case of emergency or future decisions to move on from either starting bookend.

That level of immediate impact with long-term flexibility would be ideal for the Chiefs in the present and future as they make decisions to deal with cap issues both now and later. Then again, other teams are clearly looking at Hunt thinking the same thing.
