#2 – Jamal Charles, Running Back

Had injuries not derailed his career at the halfway point, Kansas City’s 2008 third round draft selection would have gone down as one of the greatest steals in draft history. Despite his injury shortened and hampered career, Jamaal Charles‘ NFL career is worth of Hall of Fame consideration.

In nine seasons with Kansas City, Charles contributed significantly in only five of them, and despite that relatively short amount of time, still leads the Chiefs all-time in rushing yards with 7,260. That number is more than 1,000 yards more than second place on the list in Priest Holmes. He also ranks number one in NFL history with a 5.49 yards per carry average over his career. That’s more than a full quarter of a yard over NFL Hall of Famer Jim Brown, who many consider the greatest running back that ever lived.

Charles racked up four Pro Bowl honors and was twice named to the NFLs 1st Team All-Pro list, in only five true seasons played.

Charles may never make it to Canton because of no Super Bowl championships dock his resume along with his injury shortened career, but the best running back in Chiefs history deserves a place amongst the legends as the second-best third round pick in team history.
