Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones continues to be a goodwill ambassador for the team by remembering Special Olympics athletes in this quarantine season.

It’s easy to focus on the overwhelming amount of bad news these days as many of us feel a loss of control and feelings of fear and anxiety over the spread of the coronavirus and the measures taken to quarantine people across the world. However, these sorts of scenarios also allow for beautiful stories to emerge as people come together to share and support, to love others and offer hope.

One such story was told on Wednesday with the word of what Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones is doing during this quarantine downtime to remember and support Special Olympics athletes from Kansas. Sam McDowell of the Kansas City Star has the news:

Just like so many other events and organizations, Special Olympics Kansas was forced to cancel all sporting events and practices earlier this spring through May 15, per a press release. A decision regarding the state level summer games is still up in the air as some things cannot be known about the spread of the virus and how safe it might to plan any special events as soon as this summer.

Unfortunately for Special Olympics Kansas and other helpful organizations, this has not only ceased all activities but all fundraising efforts as well. In-person health and wellness programs have also been cancelled. If you’re interested in giving, you can use this link.

So many members of the Chiefs are known for being such strong and supportive citizens as well and Jones fits right into that mold. At this point, Jones is also waiting on further activity—albeit on a financial level—as the Chiefs are reportedly interested in working out a long-term agreement with Jones that could pay him $20 million annually. For now, Jones remains under contract with K.C. thanks to the franchise tag.
