The Kansas City Chiefs have reportedly met digitally with offensive tackle prospect Josh Jones in their pre-draft preparation.

Despite the inability to bring prospects by Arrowhead Stadium for an in-person, preparation for the 2020 NFL Draft continues nonetheless for the Kansas City Chiefs. The latest reports of a digital meeting with a prospect online comes from Justin Melo who says University of Houston offensive tackle Josh Jones has heard from a rep from the Chiefs.

Jones, who stands 6’5, 319 pounds, is considered one of the draft’s better overall tackles and is typically listed just outside of the top tier of tackles expected to be taken near the top of the overall draft class.

Jones is coming off a senior season in which he suffered a season-ending injury that limited him to 9 games, but he’s a three-year starter at left tackle for the Cougars. He was named second-team All AAC this season.

The typical verdict from scouting reports identify Jones as a developmental prospect who will need time to grow into any sort of starting role. Then again, he has the size, skill set, and experience to also be taken early. For the Chiefs, Jones is a likely consideration in the second and even the late first round and it will be interesting to see how quickly they want to address the tackle position—if at all.

Right now the Chiefs seem set at both tackle positions given that Eric Fisher and Mitchell Schwartz are still strong performers under contract. Schwartz in particular is an All-Pro who ranks alongside the league’s best. Both players, however, are near or at the 30-year-old threshold and Fisher missed several games last year due to a core muscle injury that required surgery. Without Fisher, the Chiefs offense struggled with Cam Erving in his place.

Mike Remmers was signed this offseason to be the swing tackle now that Erving is gone, but at some point in the near future, it makes sense for the Chiefs to get younger at such a key position.

Next. Kenneth Murray is a great fit for the Chiefs. dark
