The Kansas City Chiefs have added a veteran tight end to the roster with the announced signing of Ricky Seals-Jones.

Per NFL reporter Terez Paylor, the Kansas City Chiefs have made another roster addition on Friday with the announced signing of veteran tight end Ricky Seals-Jones to a one-year deal.

Seals-Jones entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of Texas A&M with the Arizona Cardinals in 2017. He saw immediate playing time in the desert with 10 games played during his rookie year, in which he caught 12 catches on 28 targets for 201 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns.

The next season in Arizona, Seals-Jones caught 34 passes on 69 targets as a much more sought out target for the quarterback mess in Arizona for 343 yards and 1 touchdown. Seals-Jones suffered some abysmal catch rates with the Cardinals, but it doesn’t help when the ones throwing you the ball are Drew Stanton, Blaine Gabbert, Sam Bradford, Mike Glennon, Josh Rosen, and Carson Palmer on his last professional legs.

Last season, Seals-Jones played for the Cleveland Browns and enjoyed much more efficient numbers with a catch rate that rose from a combined 47.4 percent over two years in Arizona to 63.6 percent in one season in Cleveland. Working in Cleveland, Seals-Jones caught 14 passes for 229 yards and a career-high 4 touchdowns. He has one fumble in his NFL career.

Seals-Jones, who is 25-years-old, is the obvious candidate to take over the No. 2 tight end role vacated by Blake Bell, who left to sign a free agent deal with the Dallas Cowboys. The Chiefs also brought back Deon Yelder to the mix who will compete for the backup role behind Travis Kelce. More competition will also come from Nick Keizer and John Lovett.

Next. The Chiefs get the band back together. dark
