Adam Trautman, Dayton

Adam Trautman is the smallest school product on this list, hailing from FCS school Dayton. He’s currently considered a top-five tight end prospect headed into the NFL Draft, and given how deep the draft is, analysts believe he will go somewhere in the middle rounds. Both his production and skill set support the idea he’s a top prospect at his position, but the question remains as to whether or not he can develop into a starter at the highest level.

During his time at Dayton, Trautman was the leading receiver for the Flyers in three out of his four seasons. He totaled 178 catches for 2,295 yards and 31 touchdowns, with a high of 70 catches for 916 yards and 14 touchdowns his senior year. Similar to Bryant, Trautman has multiple seasons of experience as a primary pass catcher and his athletic traits add to his overall intrigue.

Trautman measures in at a healthy 6’5″ and 255 pounds. He doesn’t necessarily boast elite speed for a tight end, clocking in at 4.80 seconds in the for40ty-yard dash, but he does possess elite quickness. His three-cone drill was the best at the combine by a considerable margin, clocking in at 6.78 seconds, and this shows he has good potential to gain consistent separation at the next level.

Trautman has great size for the position and great athletic measurables. He has experience as a primary pass catcher, which would help him transitioning into a system like Reid’s if he develops into a consistent starter. However, he’s known to struggle with blocking technique which is something Reid relies on his backup tight ends for. He’s a great developmental prospect, but the I would expect he’d need to be available in the fourth round if the Chiefs and Brett Veach were going to take a chance.
