The 5 worst free agent signings in Kansas City Chiefs history
1.) Chester McGlockton
Chester McGlockton was an excellent NFL football player—for the L.A./Oakland Raiders. In fact, he was so exceptional that after his 6th NFL season and fourth consecutive Pro Bowl, the restricted free agent was so coveted by Chiefs general manager Carl Peterson that he gave up a second round pick to the Raiders to acquire McGlockton’s services (the Raiders also received a rare first-round compensatory pick as a result).
But in Kansas City, McGlockton never reached the level of play that merited his Pro Bowl status. He played for the Chiefs for just three season and only amassed 7 total sacks in that time, after averaging nearly that many every year during his first six seasons in the league.
Kansas City cut McGlockton after the 2000 season. He did go on to play in all 48 regular season games over the next three seasons with the Denver Broncos and New York Jets, but he was never the same. Tragically, McGlockton died in 2011 due to health complications at the age of just 42.
