If the Chiefs were going to draft a running back in the first round, D’Andre Swift would definitely be one of the top options. His receiving skills would make him a great weapon in Andy Reid’s offense. His best skill may be his ability to understand his blocking and the vision to read where the play is going. He doesn’t have great breakaway speed and isn’t a “pile mover” between the tackles, but his combination of running and receiving skills would make him a valuable three-down weapon in the NFL.

My Take On This Pick:

Confession, I don’t think it’s smart to take a running back in the first round. It’s just not good value. You can usually find starting talent later in the draft and even when teams hit on a good running back in the first round, they often opt not to pay them big money on a second contract. When you mix in the fact that all three of the top linebacker prospects were still on the board for this pick, it makes it inexcusable.

Next up, another running back option.
