Former Chargers running back Melvin Gordon:

A familiar face in the AFC West, Gordon is balanced back that would make an immediate impact in both the running and passing game. Gordon has proven to be explosive but has never truly lived up to his potential of being one of the best backs in the NFL. This could be due to the poor blocking he has had in Los Angeles.

One setback is Gordon’s contract number. While I am in favor of Reid and company doing their due diligence on Gordon, I am opposed to a big contract for any running back. Gordon would also have to work in tandem with at least one other running back. It is unclear whether he would be willing to accept that in another city.

Former Washington running back Chris Thompson:

Thompson is an interesting piece. It is impossible to know his true worth because Washington’s football organization has been so unstable. Further, Thompson has struggled to stay healthy.  In fact, in his career, he has only finished one full season. In a tandem with Damien Williams and Darrel Williams, he may have less exposure to injury. In 2017, Thompson averaged 4.6 yards per carry and had 510 receiving yards.

This may be one of the best fits for the Chiefs. He is unlikely to command a huge market but has serious potential. The question is now whether the Chiefs will be scared away by his injury history. This is one move that I would like the Chiefs to make.
