The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly looking for some help in free agency with a coverage linebacker. Here are some options that might be a good fit.

On Tuesday, NFL reporter Adam Caplan noted that the Kansas City Chiefs were rumored to be looking for some help at linebacker, specifically someone with solid cover skills. That’s as specific as the rumor would get, which left us to wonder who exactly could fit that bill given that the majority of linebackers available, at least those considered to be among the best 7 to 10, had already been committed to deals during the free agency negotiation window that opened on Monday.

That led us to consider what options still remained. Unfortunately for the Chiefs, not only are there a true lack of impact linebackers remaining in free agency but the team couldn’t afford someone even if he was there. The team is already going to have to figure out a way to get under the cap by Wednesday afternoon and it’s hard to see how they’d find the money with so many other major financial decisions looming.

Still there are some solid players out there who won’t break the bank who could still provide the sort of player they are looking for. Linebacker has been a general sore spot for the Chiefs for a few years now and despite hoisting the Lombardi overhead just a couple months ago, it would behoove them to add one or two more this offseason.

So here’s a look at a few players who make sense for the Chiefs to consider, especially when looking through the lens that Caplan provides. Let’s run through our options in depth.
