The New York Jets and their abundance of cash to spend are focusing on free agent offensive lineman Stefen Wisniewski.
The Kansas City Chiefs are rumored to be interested in having Stefen Wisniewski return, likely to reprise his role as their starting left guard, but their attempts to re-sign him won’t come without significant competition for his services.
As an unrestricted free agent, Wisniewski can sign wherever he wants and there’s money for him to make in a league with below average offensive line play. It also doesn’t hurt that he’s been a part of two of the last three Super Bowl winning teams. The latest rumor has the New York Jets reportedly interested in bringing him in.
Wisniewski first came to the Chiefs as a smart midseason signing intended to help an ailing defensive line make it through some tough injuries. Eric Fisher was lost for several weeks after having core muscle surgery, and Andrew Wylie was also out of commission early in the year. Wisniewski was brought in for his ability to start in a pinch as well as his versatility, but he ended up becoming the team’s starting left guard down the stretch.
By season’s end, he was part of the Chiefs starting offensive front when it mattered most: the postseason—and the Chiefs went on to lift the Lombardi Trophy for the first time in 50 years with Wisniewski as a starter along the line.
Wisniewski, who also won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017, has started 103 games in his NFL career at both center and left guard.
