The 2020 NFL Draft is loaded with wide receivers. With Sammy Watkins’ future in KC up in the air, the Kansas City Chiefs should look at these 5 prospects.

The 2020 NFL Draft is absolutely loaded at the wide receiver position. Ask any draft expert what the deepest position is in this draft, and the answer is pretty much unanimously wideout. The Kansas City Chiefs are a little bit up in the air on the status of their wide receiver group until we know what is going to happen with Sammy Watkins. I think we all know he isn’t playing the 2020 season with his current huge cap hit, but will he restructure to clear up a little cap space or will the Chiefs decide to part ways with him?

Regardless of what happens with Watkins, the Chiefs have other needs that probably are a higher priority this offseason like linebacker, cornerback, and maybe even the interior offensive line. While the Chiefs could be losing both Watkins and Demarcus Robinson, they will still return Tyreek Hill and Mecole Hardman at receiver and the best pass catching tight end in the NFL in Travis Kelce. So star quarterback Patrick Mahomes has weapons to work with.

However, with the potential of a couple of losses at the position and a wealth of talent at wide receiver in this draft class, it makes sense that the Chiefs would come away from the 2020 Draft with a new weapon for Patrick Mahomes. With so many talented wide receiver prospects to choose from, how do you figure out which ones might be a perfect fit for the Chiefs?

First off, I eliminated guys that would have to be taken in the first round. I know some of you reading this won’t agree with that, but I feel strongly about it. It’s a matter of both need and value. The Chiefs need starting-caliber players on defense and will be less likely to find them outside the first two rounds. Meanwhile, the insane depth of this wide receiver class means that the Chiefs could likely land a big time talent that could help them much later than usual in this class.

This is why I focused this post mainly on guys that the Chiefs might be able to land in the 3rd or 4th rounds of this draft that would fit what they need and be great value in those spots. I did include one second round option at the end if they really want to ensure they get somebody that can make an instant impact.

Let’s start things off with a couple of big-bodied targets that could add a physical element that is currently lacking from the Chiefs wide receiver group.
