The Kansas City Chiefs are one of numerous teams in attendance checking out Georgia Tech’s pro day searching for further draft info.
The Kansas City Chiefs have sent a representative to check out the latest list of NFL hopefuls from Georgia Tech University, and the efforts will likely help make decisions on some prospects a bit further down the draft board for Brett Veach and his staff.
This year, the Yellow Jackets lack a top-tier prospect to watch in terms of the 2020 NFL Draft class, but that doesn’t mean that Georgia Tech will be without any players drafted. Instead, it might just be Day 3 (or later) before you hear any of those players’ names. CBS Sports has a list of the top 500 prospects for the draft (remember only 255 picks are made), and none of them are from Georgia Tech.
That means the Chiefs and other franchises are looking for an unearthed gem. Perhaps it’s a defensive back like Christian Campbell who had 36 tackles this season and 65 in his career, including 5.5 for a loss. He also played a bit at outside linebacker. Or maybe it’s a projectable lineman like Jared Southers, who has a nice 6’5, 307 lb. frame and experience at all five positions across the offensive front.
In addition, cornerback Step Durham is expected to work out for teams in hopes of revitalizing interest in him after sitting out the last year. The Chiefs signed Durham as an undrafted free agent back in 2018 but released him one year later. Now he’s back to hopefully work his way back into the league.
The Chiefs already have one Georgia Tech alumnus on the roster in kicker Harrison Butker.
