The city of Houston, Mississippi has announced that March 21 will be Chris Jones Day to celebrate the Chiefs defender’s incredible ascent.

If you have nothing to do in 10 days and you find yourself in or around the metropolis known as Houston, Mississippi, you might want to check out the festivities around Chris Jones Day.

On Saturday, March 21, local officials in Houston have announced that Chris Jones Day would be celebrated that afternoon with plenty of activities, food, music and other celebratory elements to pay tribute to a local hero who has gone on to big things at the highest level of professional football.

Jones is a graduate of Houston High School where he quickly made a name for himself in his final season after transferring halfway through his college career. In his final season, with a 6’7, 255 lb. frame, Jones had 49 quarterback hurries and 14 sacks which drew the attention of his future home at Mississippi State along with Nebraska, Ole Miss, and Oklahoma.

Jones also led the basketball team with nearly 15 points per game.

For those attending Chris Jones Day, you can expect to see the man himself by early afternoon, at which point the city will present him with a key and Jones will give a speech. There are conflicting sources between the Facebook event (which says 2:00 p.m.) and the Daily Journal article (which reads 1:00 p.m.), so make certain to double check your information before attending the event.

Jones set an NFL record in 2018 for most consecutive games with at least one sack (11) and this season he dominated the interior once again for the Chiefs, especially in a postseason run that included a Super Bowl win for the first time in 50 years for Kansas City. Jones is now ready to be paid like one of the NFL’s brightest young defenders and the Chiefs can only hope to come to an agreement on a long-term extension there.
