An Early Round Option

A.J. Terrell – Clemson – 6’1″ – 195 lbs

While C.J. Henderson may have moved himself into the top 20 picks with his combine and guys like Kristian Fulton and Jeff Gladney may have maintained their stock as possible late round corner options, Clemson’s A.J. Terrell may have had a good enough combine to boost him into late first round consideration. Terrell ran a 4.42 forty at 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds while also putting up 15 bench press reps (9th best) and the 5th best broad jump at 129.0 inches. He also really turned heads with how smooth and fluid he looked in the field drills.

In my opinion, the only thing really needed by Terrell to be a big time starting corner in the NFL is a little more physical strength. That’s why it was nice to see him put up 15 bench press reps at the combine. If Terrell can become a little more physical at the point of attack in press coverage and a little more of a sure tackler he could be a premier corner in the NFL with his size, speed, and smooth change of direction. He may not quite sneak into the first round, but if the Chiefs were to trade back into the early second round and pick up an additional pick or two, Terrell could be a perfect target for them. At this point I don’t think he’ll be there for their late second round pick.

So there you have it Chiefs fans, those are my combine standouts at cornerback that I think the Chiefs would be smart to look at in the upcoming NFL draft. What do you think about this group? Is there a player you really like out of these guys? Do you feel like I overlooked someone that had a fantastic combine and would be a good fit for the Chiefs or are you more focused on other prospects and aren’t really concerned with combine performances?

I’d love to read your thoughts in the comments below.
