NFL analyst Daniel Jeremiah insists he wouldn’t trade Chris Jones if he were the Chiefs, but that a potential trade haul could be “tremendous.”

Daniel Jeremiah is a popular NFL analyst who hosts the Move the Sticks podcast among other ventures, and he was most recently a guest with Cody & Gold on 610 sports radio in Kansas City to discuss the team’s offseason.

The entire interview is worthy of a listen, but it was interesting to hear Jeremiah discuss the extension surrounding Chris Jones for what the Chiefs could potentially get and why Jones would still not be willing to trade him.

Specifically Jeremiah says, “They would be able to get a tremendous haul from him if they decided to make that move. I don’t think it would be the smart move. He’s someone you can completely build around up front.”

When pressed to give an answer, Jeremiah entertains the thought and says, at minimum, Jones is worth a 1st and 3rd round pick packaged together.

“If ownership comes to you and says, ‘We just can’t afford it. We’ve gotta pay Pat. We need to move on,’ to me I’d want two picks and a player,” he says. “That would be where I would start. If that’s a 1, a 3, and a player or a 1, a 2, and a lesser player, that’d be my aiming point.”

Radio hosts Cody & Gold brought up the Khalil Mack trade haul enjoyed by the Oakland Raiders. To refresh your memory, the Bears surrendered two first round picks, a third and a sixth in exchange for Mack and a fifth in 2019. Jeremiah said the Chiefs can’t quite expect that because of positional differences but it’s close.

“I think there’s still a little bit of a priority on the edge versus inside. I know some people differ on that, but the majority of people around the league would say you’re gonna pay the edge rusher a little more,” says Jeremiah. “But I can’t give you a good answer on that.

“To me, that’s what I think you’d shoot for to get two ones. I just don’t know if you’d be able to pull that off. I’d say maybe you end up getting a one and a two out of the mix, but it’s a fair question because he’s such a dominant player.”

It’s impossible to know what Veach is thinking at this point, at least internally, but externally, Jones could command a major influx of draft assets if the Chiefs needed to go that route. Either he’s going to get his money and the Chiefs will either have a superstar locked up or the draft picks to try their best to replace him.
