Speaking from the 101 Awards a few days ago, Clark Hunt talked to Chiefs reporter B.J. Kissel about the hopes going forward.

For a team who hadn’t won a Super Bowl in a full half century, the Kansas City Chiefs are handling their business rather well. The team definitely enjoyed the extra week leading up to the biggest game, and the ensuing parade and parties were epic, to be sure. However, the Chiefs were also quick to let the dust, er, confetti settle for the sake of the work ahead of them.

That work is simply about repeating what they were just able to achieve. Everyone in the Chiefs organization, according to team owner Clark Hunt, enjoyed the festivities while they could and then got right back to work with a united goal of making sure it’s not another fifty years before they do so again.

Speaking from the recent 101 Awards in Kansas City, Clark Hunt spoke to team reporter B.J. Kissel at the Chiefs official site and described the scene at Arrowhead shortly after the parade was over.

“Well I can tell you the entire organization is incredibly focused on getting back here,” says Hunt. “We obviously all had a special experience here over the last five or six weeks, but literally the morning after the parade, Brett was in his office at 7:00 a.m. watching tape getting ready for the NFL Draft. And Andy was looking at tape getting ready for next season.

“So they’re both dialed in. The whole organization is. Now the goal is to repeat.”

Perhaps so much of the reason for the workmanlike attitude is that everyone involved realizes the rare opportunity in front of them. The Chiefs didn’t have a magical season topped by a Super Bowl win. Instead, the Chiefs endured myriad injuries and questions and still came out on top. They created holes for themselves in every game only to roar back with consecutive comebacks. This team didn’t catch a lucky break or a hot streak. This team overcame obstacles, including some of its own making, and still came away victorious.

For that reason, there are reasons to believe that one Super Bowl has a very real chance to turn into several. Patrick Mahomes is always going to keep the Chiefs in view of a victory, no matter the opponent. The defense was Super Bowl worthy even after a single season of reconstruction. The offensive skill positions are as loaded as any team in the league. And of course, Andy Reid and his staff are proven leaders capable of taking a team all the way.

The Chiefs are incredibly focused on a repeat because a repeat, in this instance, is very much within reach. This wasn’t just a season to remember but an entire string of years to remember—that is, if the work is done. Hunt says everyone is doing just that to do their best to create the NFL’s next dynasty.
