Ben Standig of The Athletic has a source that the Washington Redskins are interested in a potential return for Kendall Fuller.

How interesting would it be if the Washington Redskins ended up eventually employing everyone involved in the original Alex Smith trade? It sounds as if the team is potentially eyeing that very scenario given their rumored interest in a return to the nation’s capital for free agent cornerback Kendall Fuller.

Ben Standig, the Redskins reporter for The Athletic, recently wrote about the team’s interest in various free agent cornerbacks, including James Bradberry of the Carolina Panthers, and said Fuller was also an interest for the team back on the open market.

It wasn’t that long ago that Fuller and a third round pick were the returning assets to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for Smith, coming off of a career season in K.C. Washington traded for Smith in order to inject strong leadership and steady production into the quarterback role that had been a carousel for quite some time and they rewarded Smith with a lucrative new extension worth up to $72 million.

Unfortunately for Washington (and Smith), the quarterback broke his leg in a spiral fracture that has left everyone wondering if he’ll ever be able to return from the injury. Smith says he’s determined to do so, but the road to such a recovery is long.

As for Fuller, he recently wrapped up his rookie contract with the Chiefs after playing with them for two seasons. Last year, he helped the Chiefs win a Super Bowl with his versatility in the defensive backfield that allowed the team to better withstand the loss of Juan Thornhill to an injury for the entire postseason.

Fuller just turned 25 and has already put in four full NFL seasons, which means any team signing him will enjoy championship experience in a player who is still very young and productive. Fuller had 49 total tackles, 1 sack, and 2 passes defended last year for the Chiefs.
