Clyde Edwards-Helaire, LSU

Clyde Edwards-Helaire has become a scouting favorite after the championship performance put on by Louisiana State brought a greater spotlight to his specific talents.

Edwards-Helaire was a first-team All SEC back (and second-team All SEC returner) in 2019 after rushing for 1,414 yards on 6.6 yards/carry and 16 scores. As a rusher, CEH has most of the makings of a lead back at the NFL level and will follow in the footsteps of recent LSU greats making such a leap (Derrius Guice, Leonard Fournette). The vision, agility, footwork and balance are all ready for the NFL.

What’s also impressive, and what would make him that much more of a nice addition for the Chiefs, is that LSU really gave Edwards-Helaire a chance to show off his hands in 2019 and he took full advantage. He had 55 catches from Burrow for 453 yards and 1 touchdown last season to go with 40 total kick returns on special teams. That versatility and well-rounded offensive showing could give Andy Reid and his staff a lot to work with.

Scouts will knock him on his pass protection, and there are other backs with more impressive skill sets or aspects to their game. But CEH could develop even more with coaching and there’s a lot to like here as a back who could work well with Damien Williams as his primary tandem partner.
