Running Back

Players currently under contract:
Damien Williams
Darrel Williams
Darwin Thompson
Marcus Marshall
Elijah McGuire
Mike Weber

Need for a starter: 5
Need for depth: 7

This is one where I think not all Chiefs fans will see eye to eye. I put the need for a starter right in the middle at a five. I don’t think that Damien Williams is reliable enough from a health standpoint to just ignore adding someone who could start to the roster. On the other hand, I think Damien proved in the playoffs and Super Bowl that he is more than capable of being “the man” when healthy. So adding a starting caliber back (like they did with LeSean McCoy) would be a wise investment, but I wouldn’t list it as one of the biggest needs on the team.

For that very reason, I have a higher rating for need at running back depth. Not only do I think they should sign someone to compete with Darrel Williams and Darwin Thompson for the #2 spot behind Darrel Williams, but they need to do something at fullback as well. Anthony Sherman isn’t under contract and I’ve got John Lovett listed as a tight end for now, although he could be an option there as well. Regardless, I definitely think adding some competition at the position should and will happen this offseason.

Next up, the wide receivers.
