Reportedly, Eric Bieniemy was Colorado’s top candidate for their vacant head coaching position. Per Adam Schefter, and various other sources, he has declined their offer.Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy was reportedly the top head coaching candidate for the Colorado Buffaloes following the surprise departure of their one season coach in Mel Tucker. Bieniemy has a history with the Buffaloes, from playing and starring their in the late 1980s to getting his first coaching job with the university as the running back’s coach following his NFL career. There were those in the media who thought this was a done deal, but last night Bieniemy thought better of it.

It remains to be seen whether Eric Bieniemy will get a head coaching job in the NFL in the next year or two. He seemed to have a rough process in this last head coaching cycle. That said, there were two head coaches in the search who had both reached the Super Bowl with their last team (Mike McCarthy and Ron Rivera). That is fairly rare, and likely means the next wave of coaching hires has a much higher probability of including Eric Bieniemy.

Ultimately, Bieniemy made the right choice and will return in 2020 to coach Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs explosive offense. There’s not a better position to be in if you want a head coaching job in the NFL than coaching as Andy Reid’s offensive coordinator. Reid has one of the most extensive coaching trees in all of sports, and is extremely vocal about selling the next coach in line for an opportunity.
